Book Beginnings/Friday 56- The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

9:09 AM

I first saw the idea to combine these two weekly features on the blog Snow Connections, and I thought it was such a fun idea! Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda's Voice

All you have to do is grab the book you are reading (or any book), and post the first line or paragraph, as well as your thoughts about it.  After that, turn to page 56 and post any part of the page that stands out to you! That is it! I love reading these, and I think you will too.  If you participated please let me know in the comments down below.

I am currently reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, and I have to say I am loving it so far!

"Blue Sargent had forgotten how many times she'd been told that she would kill her true love."

If that opening sentence doesn't make you want to keep reading than I do not know what will!

"The voices in Whelk's head were a roar, but for once, his own thoughts had drowned them out."

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

  1. I am a big fan of this series and of Maggie Stiefvater's writing in general. I have completed the third book and now await the fourth. My problem is I forget characters and plot twists between books. Sigh
